From October 2 to 4, 2019, the 9th International Conference on Arch Bridges (ARCH'19) was held in Porto, Portugal. The theme of the conference is "Arch Bridge - Eternal natural beauty".
The international conference on arch bridge is the only academic conference with arch bridge as the theme in the world. It has been held every three years since 1995. In 2013, the permanent scientific committee of international conference on arch bridge (PSC-iCAB) was established, and the secretariat of which was affiliated with Fuzhou University.
Our dean Prof. Bruno and Prof.BaochunChen attended the conference. Prof. Chen Baochun attended themeeting of PSC-iCAB. Prof. Bruno made a biddingstatement on behalf of the College of Civil Engineering of Fuzhou University and won the bidding right of the 10th International Conference on Arch Bridge (ARCH’22).ARCH’22 is tentatively scheduled to be held in Fuzhou from October 26 to 28, 2022. At the welcome banquet and closing ceremony, Prof. Bruno introduced the advantages of our college, the hosting plan, the geography and culture of Fuzhou, etc., and publicized the ARCH'22. According to the constitution of the international organization, Prof. Bruno becomes a member of PSC-iCAB and serves as the chairman, with a term of office from October 5, 2019 to the end of the 10th conference. Thus, our college has two members in the international organization which has 10 members in total.
So far, eight of the nine international conferences on arch bridge have been held in Europe, and only the 6thconference in 2010 was hosted by our college and held in Fuzhou. This successful bid was benefited from the background of the development of Chinese arch bridge technology, as well as our insistence and efforts on theresearch and application of arch bridges.
From now on, we should try our best to make a good preparation and publicity for ARCH’22, make full use of the opportunities brought by this academic event, keep the discipline characteristics of our college, play a leading role, and comprehensively promote the development of our college.
